Duke’s Emergency Surgery

Donation protected
Some may find this silly to set up a gofundme for a pet, and the recipients may feel embarrassed over me setting this up but I felt like it was the right thing to do to help out my sister and her little family.
So please, keep reading to better understand our reasoning...

My sister, Charity has three young kids. Their middle child, who happens to be their only boy, has Sensory Processing Disorder. To help him cope they were advised and encouraged to get a service dog. They felt impressed to act and purchased their first puppy, Duke. Mikey has always wanted a brother and felt like his prayers were immediately answered...

“Mom, he’s my brother. Right?”

He’s more than a pet, he is a family member. As an aunt, I’ve watched, on multiple occasions, the tender mercy their dog Duke has been for Mikey and for the family.

Charity couldn’t have explained it better than when she wrote this on her Facebook page a few months back:

“The best thing @mjwhitmer and I have ever done to help Mikey is to drive out to Idaho and pick up this fluff ball. It will never get old watching Mikey go to Duke and love on him. Usually when Mikey is needing a “reset” or when he is emotionally overloaded. The most amazing part is that Duke will let him and It. Helps. Michael. This mama ‍♀️ has become a believer in dogs helping children with Sensory/behavioral needs.

Unfortunately, after having their Goldendoodle for only a little over a year, a problem has arose. Duke has been vomiting the last few days and getting him to eat or drink has been a struggle. My sister took him into the animal hospital to find he has a major blockage. They were going to keep him for 24hrs to medicate and pump fluids, hoping it would pass on it’s own.

It has ended up being more serious than expected. He has to have an emergency surgery or he will lose his life. The bill for all this is astronomical. How can you not go through with saving your dog when he is such an integral part of the family? He has so much more time and love to give. Their family needs him. Mikey needs him. If you could, please help us raise a portion of the cost to save Duke. Every penny counts and means the world to us all.
