Help my sister get back on her feet
Donation protected
I write this request in desperation. Yesterday, my little sister had $11,000 stolen from her during what she thought was a car sale. Whether you’re a part of our family, a friend, or a kind stranger who happened upon this page— I implore you to read on and donate any small amount you can.
To give some background, my sister was involved in a hit-and-run this summer during the height of the pandemic, which totaled her car. She’s a student at a local community college, planning to transfer to a UC next year. She’s worked while going to school because she doesn’t have any other options. With the money she received from our car insurance plus money she’s saved over the last year and a half, she was elated to finally purchase a “new” car. By “new”, I mean a used car with less than 100K miles that would last her the next several years.
The man selling the car claimed to have just had twins— a boy and a girl— so he needed a larger vehicle. He was kind. He talked about his family, his work. He sympathized with the fact that she was a student, struggling to make ends meet. He congratulated her on her hard work in school. He provided her with a car fax, a recent smog, the title, all wrapped up in a slightly dirty folder. Literally nothing could indicate that he was conning my sister for ever penny that she had. But that’s what happened. My sister drove away with a stolen vehicle and this man left with every thing she had saved. This man didn’t steal from someone who had the money to purchase another vehicle. He didn’t even steal from someone who had a parent that could loan her money to buy another vehicle. He stole from someone who had worked hard and saved and didn’t have other options. He took everything she had.
We’ve made a police report, but according to the police, even in the event that this man was somehow found, it’s highly unlikely she’d be able to recoup any of the money stolen.
I know that money doesn’t truly bring us happiness, but it’s what allows us to live— to pay bills, to save, to invest in our future. This guy took that away from her. So now, desperate, I ask that you give what you can. Any small amount will help my sister out. We would appreciate it so much.
