The hard working, kind, smart, funny, loving, 32 year old man I love has been diagnosed with a very rare terminal cancer.
An injury to his dominant arm awakened what is called Epithelioid Sarcoma. Since January he has been seen by doctors trying to figure out what was wrong. It was not until March 12th that we found out it is cancer. After the first CT scan his Oncologist advised that his arm would have to be amputated to avoid further spread. The tumor in his left arm is the size of a baseball and has taken all feeling and strength in his hand. Before the operation was to be scheduled the Doctors requested a PET scan done as concerning speckles were found in his lungs and lower back. The main danger of these tumors is their tendency to recur and to spread. The lungs and bones are a common site for the spread.
According to multiple medical opinions this has unfortunately happened. We were informed amputation is unnecessary as ultimately his life is being threatened to end. In the almost five years that we have shared our lives together he has caught a cold maybe three times, yet this ugly little monster took a hold of him and is now threatening to take his life. There are 7 speckles in his lungs and one on his back. He has been given an estimate of one year to live by two doctors.
I can't explain how horrifying and weakening it is to hear a doctor say "you'll live roughly a year." It's even worse when the second doctor says the same thing. Sam and I has plans to marry in two more years and have our first infinitely adorable baby in three, and then we were to witness all of the big landmarks of our child hand in hand. We were to work and retire at 65 to travel the world and enjoy our grandchildren. We were to age to our nineties together and die in our sleep in dreams of our beautifully busy, magical, amazing life. Terminal cancer never crossed our minds.
There have been many expressed concerns in regards to helping Sam through this unthinkable time. This page is being set up for financial help for Sam.
