Help Save Jax The Dachs

Donation protected
Little Jax is an adorable miniature dachshund from Brisbane Qld. He was born in a litter of 6 sweet boys on the 24th July 2016. It was at his 6 week routine vet check that we were told by our vet that he had a heart murmur. While he explained they are quite common in growing puppies and are generally innocent murmurs that grow out in 5-6 months, he referred us to a heart specialist to check its severity. It was the specialist which delivered the devastating news today that Jax has a mild-severe Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). The ductus arteriosus is a blood vessel that connects the two main arteries of the body - the aorta and the pulmonary artery. This blood vessel is normal in the fetus, but shortly after birth, it should close. When the ductus arteriosus remains open after birth, this abnormal communication between the aorta and pulmonary artery passes extra volumes of blood into the lungs. Patent ductus arteriosis (PDA) is a birth defect representing the second most common congenital heart defect of dogs. Approximately seven out of 1000 live birth puppies are affected. Left untreated he would have a life span of 6-24mths and will eventually drown from the fluid on his lung. They explained we have 4 options: 1. Operation via open heart immediately with 99% success rate and full recovery to lead a normal life. 2. Operation via catheterization once at 5-6kgs (he would not reach 5kgs until he is approx 2 years old, if at all as he is a miniature) 3. Medication (diuretics) to extend his life span a little however the same results would just be delayed. He would eventually drown from fluid on the lung. 4. Euthanasia (...this really isn't an option in our opinion!). We really want to take the first option, however, this operation is the same open heart operation they perform on a small child and has been quoted at approx $7500-$8000. We are not able to afford this and pet insurance does not cover puppies until they are 8 weeks. Please find it in your hearts to donate what you can to help save Little Jax The Dachs! Any amount will help and is a little closer to a happy normal life for him! Once his operation is completed and he is given the all clear, we would like to find him a wonderful forever home within those who donate on this page.
So, if you would love to care for Jax and make him your fur baby forever, please tell us a little about yourself in the comments of your donation and why Jax would be best homed with you. We will then choose the best home for Jax to go to after his successful operation. Please please please help us to save Jax.
