This is Aiden aka Bubba. When We had our very first ultrasound of our little man we received the heartbreaking news of a blood clot on his brain. We were told best case scenario he would be a vegetable when he was born. Worst case, he wouldn’t even make it that far. We were told to consider an abortion because of the fear that his quality of life would be so poor. However, giving up was never an option for us. Aiden was born with several diagnoses. Schyzencephaly, a rare neurological disorder resulting in a cleft, or tunnel, from the outside to the inside of his brain; microcephaly, meaning his head is smaller than normal; cortical displasia, meaning his eyes didn’t develop properly; and cerebral palsy, which has led him to be wheelchair bound, unable to speak, and have poor muscle control. Through it all Aiden is one of the happiest humans and continues to prove those first doctors wrong. His smile is contagious and though he is in a wheelchair and can’t convey his thoughts through words, there’s no mistaking that he could move mountains if he wanted.
To continue building his quality of life and including him in as many adventures as possible we are needing to transition to a wheelchair van. Currently we are placing him in a car seat in that he soon will be too tall for and then lifting his wheelchair in and out of the back of our van when we go out. However, both he and the wheelchair are only getting heavier, placing a strain on lower backs and knees in our house, things that will need to stay well to continue to care for our Bubba. We would be truly and deeply grateful for anything you are able to help with to help keep putting a smile on this incredible little humans face.
