Art X Science: Brown U summer 2013

Hey guys! My name is Kaylah Miranda. I am a poet that wants to be a better listener, musician and mathematician. In efforts to create works that I've never heard before, I started wondering where thoughts come from. Learning that all matter comes from stars, I'm curious on the star's influence on the human thought process. At Brown, I aim to understand the quantifications between music and poetry and their relationships with each other and the behavior of celestial bodies. This summer I'm going to take Calculus I and a class called Harmonic Convergence: Music's Intersection with Science, Mathematics, History and Literature. Harmonic Convergence will be taught through the perspective of both a neuroscientist and a musician. It will explain what the creative process is, its processes in the brain and its physical impact. Some examples of the concepts that read on the syllabus include: "Physics Of Sound", "Geometry Of Music", "Enigmas of Logic, Music and Art", "Mathematics and Music Theory: Roman Numeral Analysis; Set Theory; Dodecaphonism; Twelve Tone Matrix", and "Sonata In The Form Literature". I'm going to ask for the relationship between physics and literacy by transitively connecting what I learn from math and music and music and literature to math and literature. I then want to understand the differences between literature and poetry and connect those findings to physics. Calculus is the study of movement so I'm excited on what connections my mind will make between both classes given that thought and music are also forms of movement. I want to postulate a question that will push me to create something that optimizes natural resources and provide cognitively balanced methods to solve challenges. Here are the links to the program-
