I Have a Dream

Donation protected
Hello!

This summer I have an amazing opportunity to go to the 50th anniversary of The March on Washington where thousands marched in solidarity for civil rights. It is an important experience in my racial reconciliation journey, and it is my goal to document the anniversary of this iconic moment through the lens of my camera. But I can't do this alone, which is why I am writing to you to ask for your support in getting me to Washington D.C.

My personal journey of racial reconciliation and cultural competency has been the most evident through my photography and working with clients at Atlantic Street Center who struggle in the face of various social barriers and disadvantages.

Towards that end, over the last few years I've been providing my photography services as an in-kind donation to local ministries and non-profit organizations such as Urban Impact, Emerald City Bible Fellowship, and Atlantic Street Center. Also in my free time, I am working on a photography documentary about the effects of gentrification, called The Rainier Beach Project, which focuses on the Rainier Beach/Rainier Valley community. I will finalize the project later this year.

This August 24-29th, I will be going to Washington D.C with Museum Without Walls (http://www.museumwithoutwalls.org/). Members from five churches, including our congregation (Emerald City Bible Fellowship), will be on the trip. The trip will focus specifically on D.C.'s historical sites during the civil rights movement, including the voices of individuals who experienced these events.

This is a documentary opportunity I can't pass up! I know there is not only power in still images, but also in how they are taken. This is why I want to photograph the 50th anniversary of this historic March on Washington. I've saved money to purchase a professional camera for the trip. However, there are still specific needs for this trip and I am asking for your support and collaboration:

1) PRAYER. There are a number of people who will be a part of this trip and we will need your prayers for protection, conviction, patience, vulnerability, courage, humility, and transformation.

2) FINANCIAL SUPPORT. The costs to make this trip possible require investment beyond my budget. My goal is to raise at least $3,000 for trip costs and necessary camera equipment.

Additionally, your financial and prayerful support would help me to pursue future community projects and events. Thus this isn't just about supporting my trip to D.C., it's also an investment in my work as a photographer and social justice advocate.

Would you be willing to donate towards my trip?

Your support would help me realize this dream and share the images with you, and our community!

Thank you,

Zac
