_______________

DESPITE many advances in recent years, African-American women continue to suffer great disparities in healthcare outcomes relative to the rest of the population. This is true even of educated, economically successful women living in "good" neighborhoods.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that the breast cancer death rate for women aged 45-64 years was 60% higher for black women than white women

According to the American College of OBGYN (ACOG) African-American women have higher infant, fetal and perinatal mortality rates than women of other ethnicities.

The Project
The PULSE Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy (formerly PULSE of NY), is interviewing a number of black women about their healthcare experiences.

The womens' stories, along with input from focus groups will be used to create tools and solutions aimed at reducing discrimination — subtle or overt — against women of color who receive health care.

The Film
The women's stories will be woven into a video documentary, "Women of Color Health Disparities" produced by NuAnZ Productions under the direction of Tonya Dunham that will further publicize the problem and the ways it can be tackled.

What's the Money For?
Research, conducting interviews, filming, editing and distribution all cost money. Funds raised in this campaign will go towards the materials and services needed for this vital project.

The project is already under way; our major date for filming is October 1, 2016.  Please help PULSE raise the quality of healthcare for people of color. Your (tax-deductible) support will make a real difference to millions of people who are currently being short-changed by the system. They, and we, will be very grateful.
