An Army Medic takes care of others; it's their way of life. On the battlefield Doc has taken care of others, and now it's time for those he's helped to ask for help for him.
Doc, or Big J, has a need, over and above the prayers he has asked for, and so genuinely gets from those that love him. To those just meeting him in this campaign, please help Scott Johnson help his family in his time of need. If prayers are all you can give, he would lovingly accept them, but, if you can donate it will go to a great cause.
While I am setting this up for them, I cannot say better what they need, so I will quote Scott,
"On January 22nd, we got a winter storm that started with quite a bit of rain. Because of the cold and snow on the ground, the rain didn't soak in to the ground, but rather pooled against our home's foundation. From there it came into our house through our foundation in to the basement bathroom. We did our best to clean it up as quickly as we could but there was still carpet and sheet rock that got wet. On Tuesday night we cut a hole into the sheet rock to see the damage and found a crack in our foundation. We also pulled back some of the trim boards where the carpet was wet and found black mold along the wall outside of our bathroom. We called a company that specializes in mold removal on Wednesday to come to our house and check out to see if it was black mold, as well as to see how big the issue was. Upon their inspection and air quality tests, we discovered that not only was it black mold, but the mold spore counts in the air all but maxed out the scales of their tests, meaning our levels were measured as toxic.
Following the recommendation of the company, we found an apartment to rent so we could get out of our house immediately.
Since then we have had companies work on demolition of our basement walls to see the extent of the damage, as well as to fix the issue. We have found out that we have water that had been leaking into our walls, and being held in by insulation. We had to throw away possessions including furniture, our children's toys, books and stuffed animals, and are needing to strip our basement completely to the foundation, removing exterior walls including sheet rock, insulation and studs. After that we will need our basement sealed before we can begin to rebuild anything.
With the work in progress, we are finding ourselves looking at a sky rocketing bill that is already at $35,000 before we factor in work that will need to be completed by a plumber and electrician, or even looking into rebuilding.
During this process we also learned that the toxic levels had led to our middle child of 3 to be suffering from black mold toxicity which has been resulting in his growth plates closing faster than they should be (showing 12 years old now instead of 7). Along with this he had been suffering from frequent headaches, body aches and fatigue. Since getting out of the house, his lab results have returned back down to a normal range. We thank God for bringing this answer to light as we have been working with doctors for the last 2 years, since these issues began after we moved into this house.
Our middle child, Slade, was born at 26 weeks gestation and weighed 1 lb. 4 oz. After 118 days in the NICU we were able to bring him home, but the infanthood that is often taken for granted was a daily struggle. His immune system remains compromised to this day, which led to him being more susceptible to showing signs of black mold toxicity.
The reason we are hitting such a wall financially is that insurance will not cover any of the damage from the mold since it has been an ongoing issue, and the water was coming in through the foundation versus from faucets or pipes inside. And we are looking at probably mid-April before we will be done with all of the work ahead so that we can get back into the house.
We have been greatly humbled by the amount of love and support shown by so many. We know that people are praying for us, and the gratitude we feel can hardly be expressed. We greatly appreciate the willingness of people to also offer to help by contributing monetarily as well and cannot say thank you enough! We only ask that before giving, people remember to care for themselves and their families. If still inclined to give, please know how much it is appreciated!"

The amount of the campaign has been set because of the estimate Scott provided, and the cost of maintaining two residences, especially during the winter. In addition, there could be additional medical expenses for the family because of this. Also, as someone that used to be a Plumber, I can say that they are not cheap, nor are electricians. It's possible this campaign is actually too low, but if it looks that way it will be adjusted.
Please consider giving to assist someone that has, professionally, put others first.
