Hi yall,
Matt and Clara are two dear friends who recently lost their houseboat and belongings due to a fire. Matt was sleeping when the incident happened but was extremely lucky and was woken up by a screaming neighbor. Unfortunately, he was only able to grab his backpack (which contained his laptop and passport) before the fire engulfed the boat. Clara had left for Brooklyn earlier that night and was able to save her work kit and a few clothing items.
Clara and Matt have spent the past two summers living on a houseboat at Marina 59 in Rockaway beach, NY. Matt is part owner of City Sticks at 97th Concessions, collaborates/cooks meals at Edgemere Farm in Far Rockaway, and Clara has helped friends at neighboring concessions. They both are a special duo who are strong members of the Rockaway Beach community.
Early Tuesday morning at 3 am there was an accident on a neighboring boat. That boat caught on fire and due to the winds from the tropical storm, Hermine, the fire quickly spread. The fire spread to 6 neighboring boats that were caught on fire and they all sank. Matt and Clara's boat managed to stay afloat somehow but it is not liveable and there was nothing salvagable.
Irene was their very first home together and held a very special place in their heart. Their home and belongings have been destroyed. Let's help our friends get back on their feet! Any type of donation is greatly appreciated.
