ODB Background:
Our Daily Bread Dining Room of MOT, Inc. (ODB) was established in 2012 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to open a soup kitchen where nutritious meals could be served to residents in need in the Middletown, Odessa, and Townsend, DE (MOT) areas. ODB is a volunteer-based organization that has served an average of 60-70 meals each month for about 3 years, from a temporary location generously provided by Dale United Methodist Church in Middletown. Soon after ODB was formed we began searching for a permanent location for our own independent, fully functioning soup kitchen. About 18 months ago the Town of Middletown graciously provided ODB a former medical building located at 214 North Broad Street. Our organization recently completed the renovation of the building into what is now the Middletown Soup Kitchen. Beginning September 2016 nutritious and tasty meals will be served from our new location. Our organization is able to provide these meals through generous monetary and in-kind donations from the local community and businesses, from grants, and from fund raisers. In short, Our Daily Bread is continuing to fulfill the mission deemed important enough to create the organization - to feed low-income families, individuals, children, the elderly, and those in need in the MOT communities with nutritious meals served at no cost and without discrimination.
Our Current Situation:
Renovating our new building has been a financial challenge, as there were unexpected and unbudgeted costs to satisfy several unanticipated building code compliances. The additional materials and labor costs incurred to comply with these codes has caused us to seek options to meet our remaining financial obligations to our contractor.
How the Community can Help
We are asking the Community to consider continued support by helping us with a financial contribution - of any amount - that will be used solely to satisfy our contractual obligations and to fulfill our mission.
