Phoebe's Emergency Vet Registry

In 2001 I learned that I had a form of cancer that would leave me unable to have children. Later that year, I adopted an 8-week-old ball of fur and named her Phoebe, after the deacon in the Bible.

[UPDATE 4/30/13: Phoebe collapsed this morning and had to be carried to the car. She died on the way to vet. I can't say how much it means to have had this last good week with her.]
Phoebe has grown to be a sweet dog, affectionate and smart, and after 11 years together, she is reaching the end of her life. She was in great distress on Friday, and has been in the ICU since then. The vet drained some fluid from around her heart and discovered that she had a tumor. She has been doing very well since the fluid was drained and will be able to spend her last days or weeks at home. [UPDATE 4/25/13: Phoebe has done very well at home since treatment and is acting like her old self. She still has a large tumor which will eventually cause problems, but she is healthy otherwise and able to enjoy life. The vet is saying months now rather than days or weeks.]

Unfortunately, the expense of this hospital stay has created a great hardship for me. After consulting with some friends, who are always telling me to let people help, I have created this site to try to raise funds toward those expenses. They suggested that since I never had a baby shower for Phoebe, I could present a kind of gift registry.

Any funds collected above the total for vet expenses will go to Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston aniMeals on Wheels to provide for food for companion animals of Meals on Wheels clients.
