Chad's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
This is my nephew, Chad. Chad is a father, a son, a brother, a nephew, an uncle, a friend, and an all-around great guy. Those who know Chad, know a 20 mile bike ride before breakfast was the perfect way to start his day, even though he no longer raced professionally.

On Friday, September 2nd, with his kids off to school, Chad was well into his 30-40 mile ride in the mountains of Asheville, NC, before heading to work.
Shortly before 7am he was hit from behind by a truck. He and his bike were thrown over the guardrail and off the roadway. I don't know if the driver was going the posted speed of 50 mph, but thankfully, he stopped and called 911. The police and rescue personnel transported Chad to Mission Hospital, where he remains in Neuro ICU.

Chad was able to tell the EMTs his children's names and school before losing consciousness. The state trooper who had the children pulled out of class, to tell them of their father's accident, drove them to the hospital to be with their father.

Since being admitted, he has been kept under heavy sedation. He has had a full body CT scan and multiple surgeries to relieve swelling on his brain and alleviate strain on a pulverized pelvis. Requiring additional surgeries to repair fractured vertebrae, broken bones and torn muscles; he will need plates to connect the bones in his arms, legs and pelvis. We are thankful he has feeling in his fingers and toes and hope he will make a complete recovery.

After a long hospitalization and more surgeries Chad will require specialized nursing care and extensive rehabilitation and physical therapy. Like too many others, Chad does not have insurance. It's not that he believes he's invincible, or that he is reckless, he simply is a single father of two, trying to get by the best he can.

Chad is very unassuming and would never ask for anything, yet he would be the first to offer help to someone in need. Because he can't, I am asking family, friends, colleagues, and strangers to please help Chad. Your donation will not change Chad's life: it will give him back his life.

Any donation - large or small - is greatly appreciated and will pay Chad's medical bills and make adaptations to his home that may be necessary for his recovery and rehabilitation.
