My friend, Michele Berkel, was in a devastating car wreck on June 24th that left her a paraplegic. Although her chances of ever walking again are slim, she has maintained an extremely positive outlook on life.
Those of you who know her will understand how much she cares about and cares for her clients and their families. When I saw that she had been seriously injured, I felt compelled to help her in any way possible.
For this reason, I have been coordinating with her life partner, Donna Meyer, to set up a GoFundMe site to help with expenses related to her injuries. At this point, her medical bills are in excess of One Million Dollars!
Her insurance will not pay for all the medical bills, current/future therapy, surgeries, medical supplies or even medication. Insurance won't pay for home rehabbing or most medical equipment necessary for her rehabilitation.
Substantial modifications to the bathroom (shower, sink, toilet & cabinets), kitchen (cabinets & counter tops), laundry room and interior stairs (chair lift) are medically necessary. Doors & handles must be replaced; and, grab bars must be installed,
In addition, she will need a shower/commode chair, manual & power wheelchairs (fitted with Roho cushions), rehab equipment (weights, standing frame, workout mat, push-up bars, etc); and, a new bed to prevent pressure sores.
At some point, she will need to replace her totalled 2005 Jeep Wrangler with a vehicle that can be modified to assist her with transporting her as well as her electric wheelchair. Michele has helped many of us. Now, it's our turn to help Michele.
She truly feels blessed to have an opportunity to return to work in the near future but that doesn't help pay the normal bills, let alone these extraordinary additional expenses that our prayers and good wishes don't help pay.
