Help save Bay Kidney Fund

Meet Bay...

We are making a request for help from all our friends, as well as new friends that we hope to meet and help through this venture. Our goal is to help save Bay's life through alternate therapies available in the rest of the world...but not currently supported by the US Government (FDA), Big Drug and Big Insurance.

About 2 months ago we learned through a routine blood test that Bay's kidney's were functioning at 10% capacity and well into end stage renal failure. They call it end stage renal failure when the kidney function drops to around 10% - 15%. Patients at this stage will die within a few weeks unless dialysis is given. Within 48 hours they performed two operations that placed a huge temporary catheter in her neck and chest as well as a permanent one in her stomach. The physical and emotional impact and the scarring of these very obtrusive and painful apparatus in her are devastating.

In the two weeks Bay had to use the neck catheter she went to the brink of cardiac arrest twice and suffered severe cramping and bleeding on two other occasions. The PD dialysis it is not much better. Every night she wakes up crying in agony through out the night with severe abdominal pain from the "Cycler" machine's suction twisting up her insides. The doctors offer no advice to alleviate this...

Dialysis is structured in the USA to maintain life for as long as possible until a transplant is available. The waiting list is currently 10 years. It is also structured to maintain an extremely diminished version of life. They treat the symptoms and not the cause. Less than 25% of patients (age 18 to 54) are able to even go to work. 20% of the patients die the first year due to complications and the average life expectancy is 5 years for those on dialysis. The USA has the highest dialysis death rate in the world. Critics blame the "one size fits all" approach to treatment.

The goal is set at $29,000 and is the minimum needed to cover some of the current medical bills as well as to fund upcoming stem cell treatments in Europe, Any left over funding will help pay for alternate therapies using Eastern Medicine.

We want to raise awareness of this increasingly common disease and help to lobby the government to improve current therapies. Ultimately we also intend to act as a resource to help current patients suffering through daily dialysis procedures.

Please help - no donation is too small. More importantly please pass this on to your trusted friends and colleagues. All donors will receive a personal thank you and the knowledge that they have helped someone very special. With your help we can make a difference
