Heidi Rae is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Shawn Colestock.
Shawn works in the trades. On Thursday, he had a terrible accident. While using a saw, he cut the palm of his hand badly. There was concern of losing fingers and/or loss of function, sensation, etc. He cut through an artery in his hand. He also cut his thigh at the hip (3 inch cut down to the bone). He stumbled outside and tried to call 911 but was unable to as he applied pressure to his thigh. Thankfully, a couple was passing by and came to his aid calling 911 as well as Shawn's wife. He had over five hours of surgery. Tendons were cut in two fingers and were reconnected. The doctor is hoping that he will be able to bend them and have function. Nerve damage in one finger was repaired and the doctor is hoping for sensation to come back so that he has feeling. The pinky had blood supply cut off which was repaired and the hope is that the pinky remains healthy and has good blood flow. He had several layers of stiches in his thigh. He must keep his hand elevated. The recovery will be long. He will have 6-8 weeks in a splint and then hand therapy for 6 months or so after. It could be a year until they know the extent of the damage or healing. As a tradesman,he works with his hands. He will be out of work for quite some time. He will have partial pay while off work, but the amount will be nearly 1/2 of his regular income. He and his wife have three boys to care for at home. We are praying for a full recovery.
