In the very early hours of Sunday morning, August 27th, Gerry & Courtney Emig discovered water coming into their Friendswood home from the rising waters of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey. They had no way to leave their home. Soon the water rose over 1 foot in their home and reached the electrical sockets. Unable to reach the breaker, they climbed up into their attic along with their four children (ages 3 months - 6 years). They brought some tools to cut open the roof if needed. A few hours later their home was filled with at least 4 feet of water. They called for help from their phones and no first responders were available in that area yet. A close family friend, PJ, found a neighbor with a boat and were able to rescue the Emig family from their roof.
The Emig's are currently unsure exactly how much damage there is to their home, but they believe they have lost almost everything. They also had 2 vehicles that were submerged in their driveway.
We are currently coming together for them in our community collecting items for their short term needs (clothing, food etc). They are so grateful for all the love, prayers, and support that have already been given. However, we need your help in providing for their long term needs.
Gerry is having a very difficult time contacting all the insurance companies. When he does, he can update us on how much coverage they have. He is certain it is not full coverage on the house as the insurance company did not allow for that.
Assuming their home, belongings, and cars are gone, we'd like to start our goal at $10,000.
The other day their 6 year old daughter said to her mommy "anywhere is home when you are with your family." Such precious and true words this sweet girl knows in her heart. Let's work together to get them on their feet and help them find a place to call home. God bless you all and thank you for anything you can give.
