Grayson's new legs ❤️

On October 26th our 4 year old son, Grayson, will be undergoing a very serious surgery. They will go into his spinal cord and cut 60% of his most spastic nerves in his body. This, if successful, will help reduce Grayson's extremely high tone in his lower extremities. His tone had gotten so bad it has caused him to "scissor" his legs and making it very difficult to take steps. If the scissoring progresses it can cause his hips to dislocate and then we are looking at severe orthopedic surgery. To avoid this, they feel it is imperative to do the surgery now. The surgery is followed by a 5 day hospital stay and two weeks in-patient, very aggressive, physical therapy. Grayson's legs will essentially be like jelly and we will have to reteach his brain to walk and rebuild muscle. This is a very long recovery with therapy 5 times a week for the first 6 weeks and slowly reducing it as he strengthens. This was a very difficult decision to make because unfortunately, Grayson falls in between the spectrum of whether or not the surgery will be successful. We have no doubt that he will prevail. He is a fighter and the most strong- willed little boy I know. A little history on Grayson:He was born premature at 34.5 weeks weighing only 3.7. He was diagnosed on day two with a very rare congenital disorder (CAH) where his body does not retain salt or have the "fight or flight" capability that supports life during trauma. One year later he was also diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Grayson has fought everyday and astounded us with his drive. He inspires us every single day. We will be raising funds to help with the cost of travel, accommodations, rehabilitation, and therapy pre and post surgery. We also have a wish list of equipment he needs for everyday living such as adaptive seating, toilets, and bicycle. He also needs speaking programs for an iPad we are attempting to get so he can communicate with us.
