Help Sweet Abigail Joy
Meet Abigail Joy. The precious 4 month old daughter of my dear friends Drew and Brittany White.
Last week started off normal, until it wasn't normal anymore.
Tuesday: We went to the pediatrician for Abigail's rapid breathing. Had a chest X-ray, showed possible pneumonia, got medicine that evening.
Wednesday morning; Went back the pediatrician, X-ray showed more concerning news, an enlarged heart. Then was directly admitted to Sierra Vista Hospital with the knowledge of a pediatric cardiologist from madera in town, thank you God! (His timing is perfect) When we got there the doc wanted to see her in the ER. ER doc heard a heart murmur then they did an Echo (ultrasound) on her heart and sent for the cardiologist. He came over with his own experienced ultrasound tech and did another Echo.
He diagnosed her with pulmonary atresia (broken valve and thin pulmonary artery connection to heart) and VSD (ventricular septum disorder = hole in the heart).
Couple hrs later a non emergency ambulance ride with mom to Valley Children's hospital in Madera. Dad and big sister arrived a few hours later with our necessities...
Friday: Abigail fasts for 10 hrs before her "heart cath" procedure, a mildly invasive contrast test to see what the arteries and viens are doing around her heart and lungs. RESULTS: her heart anatomy is a complex, one of a kind, intricate design of arteries and viens astonshingly keeping her stable and healthy up to this point, Thank you Lord. But will lead to many surgeries to correct.
Saturday - Monday; We wait for the surgerical team to meet Monday morning and discuss her situation and make a plan.
Meanwhile, we as a family, church family, God's family, we pray and believe for God's mercy and healing upon our sweet Abigail. Join with us on this journey of trusting God.
Update on Wednesday, Aug. 31:
As of right now, Abigail's first surgery will be this Thursday (9/1) at 7am. We will meet with the surgeon first thing tomorrow morning and have more details. There's alot to explain but I'll give you the gist... they will be connecting artery tissues to the pulmonary artery to form a connection to the heart and give her a valve, because she has neither. In the words of the surgeon, "this is not a simple surgery, no heart surgeries are simple, but hers is VERY not simple." This is a rare condition and hers is very complex.
Please pray for us all to get good rest and for Abigail to eat well and gain weight.
