All I kept saying is I need to do something to HELP!!!
My brother and his family have been given a very difficult and sudden blow and Steven is fighting the fight of his life right now. Because I feel helpless and I want to do something I am creating this fund and in conjunction running a Half Marathon in Steve's honor.This is the least I can do to help Steve, his wife Judy and his two daughters Brianne and Kimmy.
On Easter Sunday March 31st, 2013 my brother Steven Rapisarda was enjoying a beautiful dinner with his family and friends. His family noticed he was struggling to find the right word in conversation. Because my brother Steven is normally so articulate they knew something was wrong. He went to work the next day but soon decided to see a doctor. He drove himself to the emergency room and they discovered a mass in the left thalmus of his brain, the area that affects his speech. His local hospital said it was in operable. This was unacceptable. My parents Sal and Barbara immediately drove up from Florida and along with his wife and kids and the rest of the family they knew that they needed to get a second opinion. A few days later he was admitted into Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and a biopsy was performed. It was determined that he has a aggressive brain cancer and he would have to have surgery followed by Chemo and Radiation. Steve had the Surgery on Monday April 15th, 2013 and is doing well. He along with all of us are staying positive, but we realize he has a long road ahead.
I am running the New Jersey Half Marathon in Long Branch NJ on Sunday May 5th, 2013. I want to make a statement that we are going to support and honor Steve and help him beat this illness so I created TEAM RAP. Even a donation of $1 for each 13.1 miles I will run would be a great help.I want Steve to know how many people are routing for him and supporting him in his courageous battle. Steve is a great and honorable man who works two jobs to provide a life for his wife and kids. I want him to focus on his health and getting stronger. I am not sure if and when he can return to work so I am creating this fund to ease the burden and lighten the financial stress he is facing so he can focus on his recovery and health. Medical Bills, transportaion costs, medicine and health care are going to add up.
What I ask for most of all is prayer. THANK YOU all for the continued prayer and support for my brother Steve. I will keep you updated on his progress.
