Inspirational Quote of the Day:

”The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step”
-Lao Tzu

The sound of waves speaking their condolences and doing their best to soothe the soul on this sunny but solemn Saturday.  Happy beach bound city folk escape from their confines this morning, many not fully understanding the severity of the moment.  More of the same from last night’s forceful swell.  Troughs usually heralded by water sports enthusiasts are causing aches far and wide across this community as a wicked fire spread just 522 steps from the beach and inside the beloved board shop.  Today, we stand together as a family protesting the injustices being carried out against our national neighbors and in tandem mourning the local tragedy and loss of a pillar of the North Coast surfing community.

Channel:  Sand bar barrels offer signs of stoke and solace.  Good reminder that in times when the ocean and our hearts are flat, that we can still remain positive in outlook to the distant horizon for there is bound to be movements that may make us smile.  Breathe in, breathe out. Envisioning changes that offer new energy, perhaps from a different cardinal direction or with a unique wind angle.  Accepting that conditions will consistently be different each and every time, no matter how much we think we know or wish to settle into the familiar.

Patch:  Sometimes the tide is lower than any report suggests.  Too difficult to imagine, too heartbreaking to witness.  Organized power gains strength then erupts into disaster.  Packs of pelicans appearing to surf party-wave style, instead flying together to pay their honor and respect to the elements of nature too.  On this day, the strictness of physical distancing protocol is no match for just needing a hug.

Most importantly and thankfully no one was hurt or injured in this incident. But it’s hard to imagine the weight of emotions that are swelling through the owners of 2mile surf shop at this time.  Undoubtedly, it is difficult to comprehend the loss of wares and tools for getting us in the water, the meticulously crafted surfboards patiently standing by and whispering sweet somethings to prospective buyers, and the quiver of surfboards that act as constantly expanding momentos of so many great waves and days.  Boards that in many ways are our own floating diaries for helping us process other aspects of our life and store timelines of our own evolution in personal progression.  But rest assured we will never lose the memories made passing thru the prism of 2mile surf shop.  For they have provided us with the elusive secret reserve of unlimited stoke, that feeling we get each and every time we don our uniform and select our water craft of choice.  Let this campaign be a virtual collective pursuit to mine some of that stoke and give credit due to the memories made and the friendships developed beginning and emanating from the crystal core created by 2mile Surf shop.  100% of these donations will be given to Drew Reinstein in order to help him recover from this devastating fire. We have surfed countless waves together but have never seen a set like this before.
