Help my sweet mom!

Thirty days ago my sweet mom had to undergo emergency eye surgery due to visual distortions. They were a random complication of her eye disease, Retinopathy of prematurity, that she has had since birth. During the surgery her retina detached, causing further damage to what was once her good eye. After a second go at it two weeks later, my mom is now completely blind in her left eye, with little chance for even minor vision recovery. Unfortunately, her right eye allows for only vague, blurry images within three feet of her. She can't even see well enough to turn her stove on, and can't even cook herself a meal. 

My mom worked as a nurse and a caregiver up until the day before her surgery. She's an incredibly hard-working, independent woman that raised three kids without help from anyone. She worked night shifts because those were the shifts that you didn't need to do injections and most medications, things she couldn't see well enough to do. She worked so hard, and for so long because she loves her kids. And she did it all with a major disability.

When she couldn't see well enough to do nursing in hospitals, she became a caregiver instead. It paid drastically less, but it was what she was capable of doing. She would hire neighbors to drive her back and forth to jobs because she couldn't drive. She recently even started working two jobs so that she could help pay for my baby sisters wedding. That's when she began seeing double, and bright colors started streaking across her line of vision. 

I begged her to get surgery, thinking it would get rid of these bizarre, almost hallucinogenic images. I had no idea that the moment she walked into that surgery room would be the last time she would be able to see anything. When I found out that my mom was suddenly blinded, my heart broke. I'm heading to the west coast this weekend to try to find her services, to try to configure her house so that its easier for her to get around and to tell her that I love her in person. But she needs all the help she can get. Because she can't get emergency social security for at least 120 days, she is now left with unpaid bills piling up around her, and is unable to do anything but adjust to the shock of losing her sight completely.
