About Jayde
49 year old athlete, volunteer, teacher, coach, wife of Sean Kelly and mother of two daughters (9 & 27), finds herself in need of a heart transplant. Jayde is an alumni from Kenwood High School, and continued her undergraduate studies in Kinesiology at University of Maryland and Masters at Towson University.
She has a strong passion in teaching and demonstrating a healthy lifestyle. She teaches physical education at Glenelg Country School and Howard County Community College. She also has volunteered at Team Challenge to raise money for Crohns and Colitis. Jayde is mentally and physically strong; she is an Ironman and completed countless triathlons and marathons. She is also a member of the Flying Feet Running group. Let’s help support Jayde as she waits for her heart transplant and get her active life back!
Backstory
Several weeks ago around March, it was found that Jayde contracted a virus that made her ill. At that time, it was a nagging cough. As time passed the virus began attacking her heart and she was diagnosed with Viral Cardiomyopathy. Jayde was sent to Johns Hopkins to be evaluated by the heart specialists and was quickly admitted. After many tests, it was determined that Jayde needed a heart transplant and she would remain hospitalized until a donor heart is available.
In the interim, Jayde had two surgical operations where two mechanical pumps (LVAD & RVAD) were installed to assist her heart until a donor heart becomes available. Jayde is listed as the highest priority (1a) on the donor list.
Family and friends have been very generous in offering donations to assist in medical expenses, food, gas. etc. This gofundme site offers a secure site to help donate so family can concentrate on helping Jayde on the road to recovery. It will be a long journey to recovery, but just like the number of marathons Jayde has run, it isn't a sprint to the finish line.
