Jan’s Journey

This is my Mom Janet Guidry. I’m sure everyone who sees this knows her story. For those that don’t this is it.

My Mom has been a devoted mother and Christian her entire life. 15 yrs ago she was given 2 months to live after being diagnosed with colon cancer. Despite this deviating prognosis my Mom never wavered in her faith, telling us that she trusted in God’s plan for her. She went to the appointments, underwent radiation, chemotherapy, needles, ports, multiple surgeries, you get the picture. All of this became her entire life. The 2 months passed but she didn’t. Again, referencing God’s plan, she never worried and never lost her faith. She endured countless complications and set backs that were related to her cancer and treatments. She silently went through things that are too graphic and personal to mention in this story. A year turned into two, then three. When she would settle into her routine of treatment, life would hand her a new struggle. Trouble with her kidneys and then a new diagnosis of breast cancer. She underwent a mastectomy and more intense chemotherapy. When it seemed it couldn’t get any worse she was diagnosed with bone cancer. Now after 15 years of battling multiple cancers and fighting for her life she has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Her body is weak, frail, and scarred but her Faith is as strong as ever. She made it known that her fight may be nearing its end but she is ready for whatever God has planned for her.

My Mom is known for having a prayer list for anyone who is having any issues in life. I’ve seen it myself and it contains 100’s of names. Some are simply descriptions of people she randomly met who were having problems. She still offers her prayers several times a day for all who are on her list. A good deal of the people on the list have passed away or had their issues improve or successfully resolved. Despite this once you’re on it you stay on it. One name that isn’t on that list is hers. She always told me she doesn’t pray for herself because of her faith in God’s plan.

Now, after all these years, she has accrued a mountain of medical bills. Over the years she payed each of her debtors what she could each month in good faith but could never stay ahead of her medical debt. This is an effort to reduce some of her burden in the last leg of her long journey. Thank you for reading her story.
