Raising $ For Our Warrior Princess Rosie

On December 31, 2012 our family was blessed with the long awaited & very much anticipated arrival of our Sweet Sunshine...Rosie Monroe Migues! Her parents, Bert & L'Oreal had prayed for a child of their own for many years. God answered those prayers with our little Princess Warrior, Rosie. Her story is one of many challenges, but over riding those "bumps in the road" are courage, faith, hope, love, & most important God.
Rosie arrived at 6:35pm on New Years Eve 2012. All looked well, until about midnight. L'Oreal noticed that Rosie was blue due to her not breathing. Frantically she & Bert called the nurses. They came in & rushed Rosie back to the nursery to monitor her & run some tests. Within minutes, Rosie turned blue twice back to back. She was then admitted into NICU. There they ran many tests to try to determine what was happening to this precious newborn. The next morning, the Dr's explained that they felt like she was having seizures, but didn't know the cause yet. Lots more testing was done & the final results showed that Rosie suffered a stroke during the birth process. Tests showed that she had a weak blood vessel inside her brain that ruptured as she passed thru the birth canal. After the rupture, the blood that pooled inside her brain damaged a section of her brain. Still Dr's were unsure if the seizures were caused from the blood inside her brain or from the damaged tissue. During those first few days, she seized an average of every 20-30 minutes, lasting 3-5 minutes. The seizures were tied to her breathing, so the entire time she was seizing, her oxygen stayed low...until the seizure stopped & her brain told her lungs to begin breathing again. After several days, they got the seizures under control with medication. Rosie stayed in NICU for 9 days, as she still had moments that her breathing would stop. Having a healthy newborn can be scary at times...having a sick newborn is so unexpected, its shocking & very scary. When rosie finally went home, she had to have a monitor attached to her 24/7...to make sure she was breathing.
Rosie is 3 months old now. Since she came home, we have learned that the stroke has caused some developmental delays. The most concerning is a delay in her vision. Dr's agree that she does not see well in either eye. Her neurologist says only time will tell exactly what has been effected from the stroke. Another area Dr's are concerned about is the language center of her brain. So far she has been delayed in some milestones related to language, but once again at the age she's at, it's hard to tell exactly how much damage was caused. As she grows & changes, this is when it will be noticeable as to what areas were effected & also the extent of the damage. (She is presently being weaned off of Phenobarbital, as we continue to pray for no seizures!)
It's been a very complicated process...it's such a harsh reality that a newborn baby would have to go thru so much trauma in the first few months of her precious life. It has been emotionally exhausting for her parents...the worry for a child they so desperately wanted & so patiently waited for. We all take good health for granted, but watching this process brings reality front & center!! We are all so thankful for each bit of progress she makes & thankful for all the things that did go right with her!! To look at her, you see this perfect, beautiful sweet baby girl...you would never look at her & expect that she has been thru so much in her little life. But she has...she's been thru a traumatic brain injury & she has a long, unclear road ahead of her. She sees many dr's on a bi-weekly & monthly basis. She sees a speech therapist, a special instructor, a neurologist, an ophthalmologist, along with her regular pediatrician. Rosie's hospital bill from being in NICU & all the test run to find out what was going on, is a huge mental burden right now for Bert & L'Oreal. She has another MRI scheduled to try to see exactly what is happening with her vision. Rosie's meds, along with her breathing monitor, & her medical (dr&hospital) bills are taking a toll on them. They are in need of help. At one time or another in our lives we have all experienced that helpless/hopeless feeling. They have been thru so much emotionally, & now the mental anguish of having to deal with irrational hospital billing personnel is only adding to their stress levels. They do have insurance on her, but the insurance plans for school teachers are lacking when it comes to huge medical expenses. A situation like this is so difficult...they also have no idea what future medical expenses are around the corner, but for now we all know that we just need to cross this bridge. This was all so unseen. None of us ever dreamt that this sweet love of our lives would be so sick & have to endure so much. And yet each time we look at her, she has this amazing light about her. It's like she's trying to tell us or teach us something very important. I think she knows that God has this all under control...& she knows that in her life, she is going to be a living testament to so many great things to others. All I know is to me...she is my Sunshine...she warms my heart & my soul.
I keep telling Bert & L'Oreal that God gave Rosie the perfect parents in the two of them!! She is a blessed little girl to have such loving, faithful, devoted, patient parents. They are determined to do all that they can to assure that she attains as full & normal of a life as possible!! The 3 of them are a winning combination!! And our Rosie...she is one little fighter!!! At 3 months old, she is a warrior...our Princess Warrior!!
