Sean's Italian Opera Summer Program

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,

I am writing to let you know that I am thrilled to have been selected to join the Classic Lyric Arts 2013 program La Lingua Della Lirica (The Language of Opera), a unique program of singing, language, culture and performance, based in Novafeltria, Italy.

Because this is a specialty program outside of the United States, there are currently no scholarships and/or financial aid opportunities available to help me finance this program. Each student is responsible for raising the funds for the cost of the tour, approximately $5,500, which includes tuition, airfare, housing and food. If you would like to support me in this endeavor with your financial assistance, it would greatly help me, since this is an independently-funded project.

Any donations above $50 will be rewarded with a CD recording with selections of my fall 2013 repertoire.

These 3 weeks in Italy will be very beneficial for me, as they will help solidify the progress that I've made at Mannes, especially since my coach Glenn Morton is at the helm of the program. Italian music has been the primary focus in my repertoire, and I still have much to cover and refine. I have taken the time to record pieces that I deem demonstrate the best of my ability. You will find links below to a selection of songs and arias:

L'ultima canzone, by Tosti

Ideale, by Tosti

E la solita storia del pastore, by Cilea

Una furtiva lagrima, by Donizetti

If you are able to consider a gift at any level to assist me in this endeavor it would be a tremendous help. I understand there is not much time but I believe I have what it takes to succeed and take full advantage of this program. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me!

With my deepest gratitude,

Sean

24 students were selected from across the country to participate. It is an intensive summer training program for young opera singers that focus on developing distinctive lyric diction, persuasive and powerful stage presence, and a connection to the traditions of the classical Italian repertoire. The singers experience a direct link to opera by being fully immersed into the daily life of an Italian village, along with an intensive study of the Italian language, fundamentals of diction and phonetics, musical traditions and styles, acting and movement techniques, as well as weekly excursions connecting the singers to the culture and history of Italy. There will also be opportunities to perform in four different venues.

The program runs July 21- August 15. The native Italian vocal coaches hail from the Rossini Opera Festival in nearby Pesaro, and are experts in the relationship of lyric diction to operatic singing. They include Glenn Morton, Ubaldo Fabbri and Donata D'Annunzio Lombardi. This year, the Tosti Institute in Ortona, dedicated to the song composer Paolo Francesco Tosti, has invited CLA Italy to perform in the composer's theater and to participate in master classes focused on his compositions.

Classic Lyric Arts is a tax-exempt non-profit organization that sponsors the program to promote career development and performing opportunities, fostering US based international collaborations with leaders in the field of opera, and building a bridge for the next generation of performers.
