Summer Study Abroad in the UK

Dear Friends and Family,

As you may know I will be graduating from the University of Georgia on December 13, 2013 with an A.B. in English and a minor in African American Studies. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! After having everything all planned out, about a week ago I discovered that the courses I needed to graduate were being offered abroad instead of at my home campus. I have always wanted to study abroad and this year, after a rather odd turn of events, I have been given that opportunity.

I have been accepted to The UGA at Oxford  Junemester Program. The program offers students the opportunity to travel and learn while living in Oxford. All of the students participating in this program made their decisions to participate in January. Just days before the final deadline, I was awarded one of the final openings. This was great news, but all scholarship deadlines for this program closed in February. About twenty students are selected to participate in this program from the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.

This summer I will have the amazing opportunity to study 20th century British Literature and Renaissance Drama under the faculty of Oxford College, one of the most prestigious institutes of higher education in the world. I begin my studies in Athens, GA before heading to the United Kingdom for fifteen days in June. As an English major, it is a true honor for me to be able to visit the sites, universities, museums, and hometowns of several of the most lauded English writers of the established literary cannon.

I will be leaving for London, England on June 11th, 2013 and will return on Thursday June 27th, 2013. I ask you to join me in being able to take advantage of this opportunity to study at the University of Oxford. You can send me a check or money order, or if you prefer to give online, I have created a website using GoFundMe that allows you to donate securely using a credit or debit card. Also, I have created a blog that I will update leading up to and during my trip to Europe so you can follow along with me during my travels.

England is one of the most expensive countries to offer study abroad programs. My goal is to raise the $4,000 needed to pay for my airfare, meals, and local transportation to historic sites. I realize that the economy has presented challenging circumstances for many, so please know that I will be appreciative of every dollar that is given. No donation is too small.

I would greatly appreciate your prayers for safety, discernment, and good companions during this trip. It is my first time going to Europe as well as my first time traveling abroad without family. In light of all this please pray because this is a very quick turnaround. I have just about two months to pull everything together and there are stiff penalties for missing payment deadlines. I am trusting God and stepping out on faith, and I couldn't be more excited.

Thank you in advance for your support,
