Hi there!
My name is Anika Nichols-Payne, and I am a sophomore at Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
As a Theatre Major, I am always looking for new ways to experience and learn Theatre. Earlier this year, I was lucky enough to audition and be accepted into the Vassar Powerhouse Theatre program. The program is amazing. It takes place over the span of 6 weeks at the Vassar College campus in upstate New York, and focuses on three disciplines: Acting, Directing or Writing. I was accepted into the Acting program, so I will be taking classes on acting, vocal work, and movement. I will also have the opportunity to be in an outdoor production, partake in workshops and take special Master Classes taught by visiting professors and actors, some of whom are the best in the field.
This is an opportunity I dreamed of but never thought I would have. I would REALLY love to attend! The obstacle I am facing is the cost.
So far, I've earned a $1,500 scholarship and saved $2,000, for a total of $3500. I am still working hard looking for scholarships and saving money.
The program costs $5,000, which covers tuition, room, and 2 meals a day. In addition I will need money for 1 meal a day, transportation, and spending money. I, therefore, still need $1,500 for tuition, approximately $600 for transportation, $400 for meals for 6 weeks, so I have to come up with at least $2,500 in order to be able to go. I am a financially independent student, and I am paying for my own education as best I can, so I need a little help. This is where y'all come in.
Back in the day, Actors had patrons to help them pay for their living expenses so they could continue honing their art. Today I'm going old school and searching for my patrons! Can I count on you?
