Dear Friends and Family,
This summer, I have an amazing opportunity to partner with Children of the Nations (COTN) and Summit Church in Orlando, FL to go across seas to Malawi, Africa. COTN is a child sponsorship program and community builder that provides holistic, Christ-centered care for orphaned and destitute children. I have the honor of working alongside COTN for ten days in July to work specifically with children with special needs.
As you may know, many people with disabilities face challenges every day that we cannot begin to understand. In Malawi, many people are under-educated and therefore do not understand how to take care of or cannot afford to take care of their child with a disability. Many disabilities can be helped greatly, but because of lack of resources, they are untouched, making the child's body and mind deteriorate. Children with disabilities are treated as different and less important than other members of the family. This is heartbreaking to me and I feel called to go to Malawi and work with these children.
Since coming to UCF in 2008, I have had to opportunity to work with children with disabilities through school and work. I have fallen completely in love with these children and know that I want to spend the rest of my life working with them. This summer, I will have the opportunity to work with a group of children with disabilities and their caretakers. We will do a Vacation Bible School with them, work with their caretakers, and show them the love of Christ while we are over there. I would like to offer you the opportunity to partner with me in this. I have gotten to the place I am today because of prayer and support from my family and friends. I know that this experience will be spiritually, physically, and emotionally stretching and your thoughts and prayers are a huge support!
In addition to needing prayer, I am also in need of financial support. The trip is going to cost approximately $3,700 plus the cost of vaccinations and packing items. I am currently working on saving as much as I can, but I cannot cover it all. Please don't feel obligated to give, but if you can, prayerfully consider if God is leading you to.
