Fast&Furious Toddler: Help Me Walk

Donation protected
Many of you have followed Collier's story from his birth; from his precarious days in the hospital to when he finally came home fifteen months later. His growth and development since then have been phenomenal—everybody says so! But he's still behind. We remain hopeful, but his physical therapists can't guarantee whether he'll ever be able to walk. So we are doing everything we can to help his mobility. We got him a little rocking chair and he loves pushing with his legs to rock back and forth.  And now he is getting up on all fours by himself and understanding so much of what we say.  It’s so exciting to watch him.

This adaptive tricycle will help him move around, and it can carry his ventilator, oxygen and feeding pump with him. The equipment he has weighs far more than he does, and seriously limits where he can go on his own. It will not only give him mobility, but it will continue to strengthen his leg muscles to help him gain the strength to walk.

All of this is incredibly expensive. We feel lucky and blessed so far that we have been able to deal with it. We both work, Collier has both private insurance and Medicaid, and he has been helped by a few charities as well. But there are so many other costs not covered: increased utility bills to run his equipment 24 hours a day; driving back and forth to the hospital every day for over a year; portions of the generator he needs. The list goes on, and we've watched our bank accounts dwindle. We are also looking at several future home modifications, such as a ramp, which we may not have the budget to cover through Medicaid. His Medicaid waiver program covers some of the tricycle and accessories that he needs but not all.

So we are reaching out this one time. We know many of you have wanted to and were willing to help in the past, and we never really knew what kind of help to ask for.

We’ll use the funds to cover the tricycle costs first.  Any further donations we’ll use to build the ramp, replenish the generator costs and pay for other costs associated with his care. We may be able to get the trike in the next couple of weeks! Collier is excited to be able to ride around and no be tethered to a cart.  We are so excited to see him have fun. Many thanks for considering our campaign.
