Aida's Medical Expenses Fund

As most of you are aware, my mother suffered from a stroke and has been hospitalized in the Stroke Trauma Unit in the Houston Memorial Hermann Medical Center.

Thursday morning my sister and I were woken up to her having a TIA (mini stroke). We took her to the ER and they immediately took care of her. Ran multiple CAT scans, MRIs and blood tests. She was hospitalized over night and released the next afternoon. We were relieved thinking it was just a scare and she would have a speedy recovery.

Unfortunately that wasn't the case. She had a full blown stroke Saturday morning. We called 911 and the paramedics rushed her to the Medical Center. We're extremely lucky and grateful to be at a great hospital where they're taking such great care of her. They had to follow the same procedures and run more CAT Scans, MRIs, blood work and a TEE to check her heart.

She did have brain damage because of the stroke, but she's stable, holds conversations better and can remember a lot. It's harder for her to translate to English now (which she never had trouble doing). She needs some help walking and will need help with personal hygiene. She will need help and care for every day needs for awhile. She will need follow up doctor visits, an occupational therapist and a plethora of medication to help with her recovery.

Unfortunately my mother didn't have health insurance and the medical bills will be paid out of pocket by her three children. Statistically the hospital bills can roughly add up to $120,000 after all the tests, staying in the stroke unit and different doctors. We're not asking for more than what the bills will actually amount to. If the billed amount is lower, we will immediately change it. We are prepared to work as much as possible to be able to get my mom healthy and back to her happy and cheerful self.

As stressful as the idea of hospital bills can be, nothing can amount to the desperation of seeing your mother's bed empty at night. Having no clue if your mother will come back home the same way she used to be. Or having her introduce you as her "friend" instead of daughter. It's difficult. Every dollar is extremely appreciated, but most of all we ask for prayers, lots and lots of prayers. We just want our mom back. She's 49 and still has so much to experience. We would want our mom at our weddings one day, seeing us have children and being aware of what's happening around her. We want her to be able to make everyone laugh, she was so good at that. We just want her healthy again.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank all of you for taking your time to read this and send your prayers. We appreciate the love and support. Go home and kiss your mom. God willing, everything will be okay.
