Bev Baby Catching in Africa!

Donación protegida

As a trainee midwife I have the opportunity to go to Tanzania, Africa in January 2014 for 2 weeks!

Tanzania has been labelled as one of the least safe places in the world for expectant mothers!Approximately 13,000 women die every year due to complications in pregnancy and labour and more than a quarter of a million suffer pregnancy related injuries.
Despite Tanzanian women having an average of 5.4 children each, it is estimated that there is only one midwife for every 2,536 pregnancy/delivery.
Working in North Manchester I have seen some of the health issues effecting African women including Female Genital Mutilation and HIV.
Whilst out there I will be staying with a host family.During the day I will be working in the maternity unit in the main hospital and then spending time with the Maasai tribe out in the rural community clinics.Any spare time will be spent helping out at the local orphanage.
I know that this trip will be tough, emotional and sometimes scary but it will also be a life changing experience that will add so much to my personal and professional development. If I can make a difference to just one life then it will all be worth while!
