Roughly 2 weeks ago my cousin Erika and her husband Jeremy had to witness their 5 month old son have a terrifying seizure. They had no idea why since this was the first one and was sent to a hospital in Burlington, VT. Over the next couple of days his seizures increased to anywhere from 20-30 a day!
He was diagnosed with Polymicrogyria, which is a condition that affects the development of the human brain by multiple small gyri creating excessive folding of the brain leading to an abnormally thick cortex. This abnormality can affect either one region of the brain or multiple regions.
Rowen was transferred via medical transport to Children's Hospital in Boston this past Thursday. Rowen is having a scan this Tuesday to determine if he will be getting surgery to help reduce these seizures. This is a very difficult diagnosis and the family has been told that the possible side effects are: global developmental disabilities, motor dysfunctions including speech and swallowing problems, respiratory problems, and seizures.
I am asking you to consider helping my cousin and her family. They have already built up a significant amount of hospital bills (2 different ones), cost of the emergency transport from VT to MA, has needed special rooms with monitors to help detect the seizures, loss of wages from both parents not being able to work and the likelyhood of one parent not being able to work again due to the support Rowen will require. Any support would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
