Help A Foster Kid Get Started

Donation protected
I will write from my heart and I hope the words that come to me will touch your heart enough for you to help me.

My name is Chaya Mushka Milchtein, I am 18 years old and aging out of foster care in June. I currently attend Homestead High School in Mequon, WI. Let me tell you a little bit of my story leaving out most of the graphic painful details.

Abuse in my house has been going on for many years before I managed to get into foster care. I was born and raised in an Orthodox Jewish home on Milwaukee's east side. By the age of 14 I was living alone in Brooklyn raising two of my sisters. By October of 2011 at 16 years old I was in foster care in Milwaukee. I tried with all my might to hang on to my religion and values as life started getting tougher.

I came out as LGBTQ in December of 2011 and immediately got involved in the queer community. I started and ran the Gay-Straight Alliance in my high school for a little over a year and started my own LGBT Youth Organization, GSA Connections. I also began trying to find a job realizing that soon I would need to live alone and care for myself. My parents stopped talking to me when I came out and now I have not spoken to any of my 10 siblings that are at home for almost a year and a half.

Today is a little over two weeks before I age out of foster care. I don't have a job even though I have done everything in my power to find one. I don't have that parents support that is so important at this crucial stage in a young person's journey. What I do have is a possible job opportunity and a lot of fear.

How will I buy the things necessary to have your own place? Getting a job now won't help me save enough for a security deposit or the first month's rent. How will I get the money for that? Will I end up in a shelter? What now?

Here is where you come in. This is close to my last resort. There is a wish list if you wish to help me get started by donating towards a specific item (http://amzn.com/w/2UT796N1P7SNH) or you can help by just donating money. It will all come to good use. Please help me get started and have a chance for success. I want to go to college. I want to work to help other people. I can't do this on my own and i can't ask my parents for help. You are the only one I can ask.

If you can't help out with money then please at least take a moments to share the page and send a personal message to people that might be able to give with the link. Every dollar helps.

Resources are also a huge help if you have any or know of any.
Thank you for reading a considering helping me get a start.
