Medical Expenses

My name is Nikki Davis. My husband, Jim, recently died at Hospice House of the Piedmont in Greenwood, SC. He had been on Hospice care at home after a 2 weeks stay in the hospital for End-stage COPD and pneumonia. He wanted to die at home, but declined rapidly, with a serious bout of diverticulitis & after a fall, we had to move him for 24 hour care. During the past month, friends & family have been supportive, but I continue to have obstacles to overcome. My front 7 teeth were a permanently placed bridge. The teeth holding the bridge broke off & I am now snaggle toothed. I went to my dentist, but it cannot be replaced & other teeth need to come out.  I think my pride has falsely kept me at home so no one would know. Then my knee went out, from a meniscus tear & repair from years ago. The ER visit sent me to the Orthopedic doctor &  I had a MRI. It’s torn again, now in 2 places, plus two ligaments sprained & stretched. I was supposed to be partial weight bearing, but taking care of Jim had become more important. We have maxed out our credit cards & have debts galore, just with our living expenses & my medications, (including two kinds of expensive insulin) & medical bills have used up our income. I cannot afford to get dentures or have my remaining teeth pulled or surgically removed. Cannot find any source of help due to low credit scores & debt.  I had been falsely diagnosed with Hepatitis & Cirrhosis and God removed any damage to my liver. I have had 2 episodes of breast cysts that were removed & were not Cancerous. God is good & I firmly believe that He is the reason for my existence. Jim was so ready to go home to heaven. He is no longer sick or struggling to breathe. I am scared, sad, & emotional to face life without him.  There is no life insurance to help with either of our medical bills, because he was tricked into signing his divorce papers without his glasses (broken at work) after it was supposedly read to him. Of course a couple parts were skipped over. But after he signed, nothing could be done. He did try to have the beneficiary changed 50/50 between his son & myself, & although notarized, evidently the divorce papers have precedence over his will or change of beneficiary form, because divorce papers say “irrevocable”.  A friend suggested I put our story out there for support & hopefully raise some money for our medical bills, cremation services & some dentures.  I promise to use any donations wisely & if there’s any extra it will go to the Hospice House of the Piedmont and/or SC Cremation Society in honor or memory of Jim Davis. The staff & volunteers of Hospice are wonderful. If you are bored or have a few hours for volunteer work, it is an awesome opportunity to help & the blessings abound for you & the families that are given support & care.  Thank you!
