Jennifer was diagnosed with breast cancer in mid January of
2013. Her doctors scheduled surgery for
February 14th for a double mastectomy to be followed by chemo
therapy, radiation and anti-hormone treatment.
Then on February 7th while she was at work her right leg became very painful and stiff and by the end of the work day she could barely walk. She was taken to the ER and given IV antibiotics and admitted to the hospital. Her artificial knee was infected and doctors removed 60cc of fluid. She was released on February 9th. Her doctor decided later that her artificial knee needed to be replaced before she could have cancer surgery so her knee replacement surgery was scheduled for February 15th and her mastectomy surgery was rescheduled for February 28th.
The cancer surgery went well, and Jen is on the road to recovery! She has to wait 10 days after her current antibiotic treatment is finished then be tested to make sure that there is no infection in her knee. Once that happens she can begin her chemotherapy treatment.
Through all of this I've never known her to feel sorry for herself, instead she is incredibly positive and has been sharing her story on her Face Book page, reaching out to other survivors.
The medical bills are enormous as you can imagine and she's unable to work through all of this and the everyday expenses of living are adding up. When I told her that I had started this fundraising campaign she told me that she felt uncomfortable asking for help. I told her that I had already sent out an email and that so many of you were excited about this idea and want to help.
So please, send a little love to Jen, she's been through a lot and is now facing the challenges of chemotherapy.
