20 years ago, when he was only 33, Sam Yi opened the doors of Churchill Grounds. As of July 31st, 2016, those doors close and Atlanta loses the only venue for straight ahead jazz and the oldest jazz cafe in the city.
At Churchill Grounds, we strive to promote the better things in life by helping to remind you of the classics of days gone by. Musicians that play at Churchill Grounds play their own original compositions and introduce you to the classics. Our musicans represent the young, old, accomplished, novices and all backgrounds. We represent you and all genres of jazz that you enjoy.
Jazz MusicAmerica's only true native art form is. There is no other form of music that embodies the sophistication, eloquence, passion, spontaneity and emotion that jazz communicates to its' audience. At Churchill Grounds we have sought out the most dedicated and talented jazz musicians to help maintain Jazz as a forefront in modern music.
Finally, over the years, we've represented more than the music, we represent a rich slice of history as many entertainers have graced our stage and have served as our audience. From Clint Eastwood and Lady Gaga to India Arie, Danny, Terri & Philip Harper, Russell Gunn and Wynton Marsalis we've seen it all and loved every minute. We will continue to love every minute until the doors close July 31st for good at this location.
Our mission is to collectively raise $15,000 in order to secure a new venue. Rent for a similar space in Atlanta can range from 10k to 20k per MONTH and we'd like to generate enough money to secure a venue that would allow us to stay local. $20,000 would be ideal for the 20 years that Churchills has been jamming but $15,000 will ensure that we are able to hit the ground running.
No donation is too small. No gift is too big. We will be so grateful for anything you can do to help us keep jazz in the city. The band must play on.
