For those of you who do not know me, I am an artist of British and Salvadorian extraction who grew up in various different countries with a significant part of my childhood and youth having been spent in Portugal. I have been living in Barcelona for the last eleven years; a city that I love and that after Lisbon has become my second home.

Despite my artistic vocation, I have always wanted to explore writing as a creative tool and I wanted to do so with the eye of an artist, looking to invoke moods, moments and emotions that might be read on various different levels. So last year I set up a website in my own name and began to publish selected articles and short stories that in general were very well received by those who got back to me with their impressions and comments. These stories are on my website (oliverhuntrods.com) and you will see that they comprise a varied selection of writing that in part is semi-autobiographical and introspective in nature whilst at other times leaning more towards fictionalized accounts of real life events that I have witnessed or come to know about. There are also other moments of pure fiction.

I recently approached a London publishers with samples of my work and they replied that they were very interested in what I was writing and requested to see the full manuscript for editorial review. After taking their time to consider my proposal of 44 short stories entitled “Sketchbook” they have replied that they would like to publish me in paperback and they have offered me an initial co-publishing contract. The funds that I seek to raise through this crowd-funding action will therefor go entirely towards off-setting the sum that they are requesting I invest with them in this project as an unknown writer.

Whilst I have struggled quite a bit with the possible “cheek” of requesting the support of others in this creative project, my getting published in this instance and achieving wider circulation within the general readership will hopefully open doors that will permit me to explore other projects that include a biography and a novel. Being able to achieve this is most important to me as I feel I have found the creative tool that suits me best and I hope to demonstrate my gratitude to you for assisting me with this project through the quality of this work and through the dedication I intend to give to my future writing. Your assistance and support - however small - will be profoundly appreciated by me. Thank you!
