Lelania's Heroic Battles

Donation protected
Lelania is the single mother of 3 boys (2 of whom are grown and living elsewhere) who was diagnosed with breast cancer in November, 2015. She has battled through radiation and continues chemotherapy as she cares for her 9 year son. She recently learned that the cancer has spread and she has a tumour in her hip and one in her thigh.

Lelania was recently featured on CBC news http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/cliff-rescue-1.3681375 and other local news outlets http://www.mrtimes.com/news/386526021.html
for her heroic act of saving 4 teenage boys who were stuck down a cliff. She accomplished this rescue the day after she finished radiation and while on her first outing since beginning cancer.

Lelania is on disability insurance which ends soon and only provides a very meager amount to live on and provide for her and her 9 year old son. She is still receiving treatment and is not able to return to work due to continued nausea and risk of infection from her extremely depressed immune system. Lelania is burdened not only with the high costs of medication for her condition but also with living expenses: rent, food, gas, utility bills, etc.

We (Chris and Natasha, Lelania's friends and neighbours) have set up this funding request to raise $15,000 for Lelania to help her with all of her expenses until she can return to work. Her goal is to return to work in January, 2017. Lelania's disability insurance ends in August and though she is approved for CPP disability, the rate is only $900/month, This is not enough money for medications, rent, utilities, food, gas, insurance, and other sundry bills.

This fundraiser will provide an incredible boost to Lelania and reduce the stress of finances while she focusses on fighting cancer and taking care of her son. It will allow her afford her very modest expenses without continuing to collect cans for petty change (between chemo treatments) and borrow from friends just to make ends meet.

Lelania has given so much to others her whole life. Her recent heroic acts are indicative of the life she has lead. Lelania was been a foster parent from 1997 to 2005 and has cared for dozens of children, showing them the same love she gave her own children. She stepped in and took care of children who needed love and comfort while away from their parents. Lelania is selfless, thoughtful, kind, caring and generous. Our own children love Lelania and spend time with her as often as possible. We are hoping that others will feel the same love she exemplifies and donate to help Lelania.  Any funds donated are greatly appreciated.
