UPDATE: After our successful fundraising on behalf of Henry and Kristen earlier this year, we thought, after further major surgery, including a graft, Henry was out of the woods. We were sadly mistaken. Early last week Henry was life-flighted to Strong Memorial Hospital after coughing up blood; after a further episode at the hospital, more surgery is schduled for Friday, June 8.
To be succinct, Henry and Kristen need our help again, and I sincerely hope your generosity, and respect and love for Henry and Kristen will come through again. We have updated the campaign goals and we hope to help them both out again when they need it most. As some of you already know, my dear friend and colleague, Henry Tilson has been fighting for his health -- and his life -- over the past several months.
As a child, Henry was diagnosed with a heart defect, and he underwent surgery at that time to correct the defect. However, in September 2017 that same condition reared its ugly head, and Henry, suffering from strange symptoms, was thankfully taken to the ER, and later Strong Memorial, where he was diagnosed with a large aortic aneurysm, which developed as a result of both this childhood defect, and the surgery he had undergone to correct it . Henry's competitive nature would have him tell you that the aneurysm was "huge" and the number of stents he received "was a record for the skilled surgical team."
After multiple surgeries, and PT, Henry was back with us all in November. However, last Thursday, after some new and shocking symptoms developed, Henry was again taken to the ER, and again transferred to Strong Memorial where he underwent three procedures: one an open-heart surgery, and one to inflate, and clear a collapsed lung, and clear both lungs of blood, and infection from bilateral pneumonia. We have word that, as of this past Monday, Henry was up and walking around, taking the first small steps in his recovery.
If you know Henry, you know he is proud, competitive, and fiercely self-sufficent. Thinking on that, he will likely kick my ass when he sees this page. I'll risk it.
Nevertheless, Henry, and his wife Kristen are beginning the long process of recovering Henry's health after running the gauntlet of a near-fatal heart condition, and equally-risky surgeries. Henry needs Kristen's time, and her care, and her love; and she needs to focus on him; her job, and her income are now quite obviously secondary concerns and neither of them should need to concern themselves about money.
I ask you to donate to Henry and Kristen to help them focus on life and health; in a perfect world, no one should fear for their livelihood, their next meal, the mortgage or even gas money, if they are fighting to recover life and health. Help make this a more perfect world and donate whatever you can to Henry and Kristen.
