Harrison Homes, Inc., is a non-profit located in Stockton, CA, dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for at-risk youth so that they may learn and grow in a healthy manner and build a brighter future for themselves. In line with that commitment, we have opened a house to accomodate LGBTQ youth from all over California.
LGBTQ youth are one of the most at-risk populations when they are in the system. They represent 40% of homeless youth in the U.S., and experience higher rates of abuse, emotional distress, mentall illness, drug use, and suicide, and these rates are higher still for transgender youth. Due to that, these youth need higher levels of attention, compassion, and care, and Harrison Homes is dedicated to providing them with such an environment.
This venture was a necessary and inevitable step in the growth of our company, but it is not as simple as just opening the house. Running the home, and all of our desired programming, runs a cost. We would like to ensure that our residents have access to all the resources necessary for their healthy growth and development, including LGBTQ community resources both in and out of Stockton. We would like to ensure that the equipment used at the residence, including transportation, is up-to-date and maintained in as good a working condition as possible.
In an effort to provide the best service we possibly can to our residents, we are asking for help from the community at large. Any donation you could make would be much appreciated, and would go directly to helping provide our LGBTQ residents with a safe, caring, and accommodating environment with a strong and diverse support network that will allow and encourage their growth.
