August 11, 2023 after a few months of struggling with eating, my brother, Matthew Johnson was diagnosed with cancer. He has been fighting stage 4 metastatic lower esophagus cancer. He underwent surgery and had a feeding tube put in so he could "eat". From February 2024-April 2024 he was hospitalized 6 times due to infections, and just being sick from treatments. He was doing biweekly 48 hour chemo treatments and 5 days a week radiation. During the 6th hospitalization he had decided to quit treatment and come home on hospice care. He has since avoided any hospital visits and remains at home comfortable.
We are at this point starting to plan for the future as we are aware what is next. Matt took care of our parents for most of his adult life until they both passed. He then worked as a student van transportation driver with Red Lion bus and loved his job. Unfortunately he needed to stop working once the cancer diagnosis came.
Matt was a very devoted caregiver to our parents, a good brother and has been an amazing uncle who my kids love dearly.
We are hopeful that we will be able to raise funds to properly bury him when his time is done.
