Janet's Road to Recovery

WHO MY MOTHER IS

On July 16th, 2018 in the late evening hours  — My mother Janet was rushed to the ER after having unexplained pain that was no longer bearable.  Within a matter of 3-4 hours, we received the heartbreaking news that my mother had stage 4 invasive adenocarcinoma of the lung, which had spread to two other parts of her body: her spine, and her brain. After a few more tests, we were informed that one of two brain tumors was growing against her skull, and that if left untouched, it was expected that the tumor would continue to grow, and her life expectancy without surgery wasn't very long.

On July 31st, brain surgery was completed, and was a huge success. Life expectancy has been improved dramatically, and recovery has been a huge success. Over the past few weeks, I have been blessed to witness my mother recover as well as she has been. There have been a few bumps and hiccups during recovery as are always expected, and radiation will definitely be one of those bumps, but if she can conquer the things she has already, I know she's ready for the challenges ahead, and I couldn't be more thrilled to call such a strong-willed woman my mother. Thankfully, she's currently back at home under my care, but she's still in a lot of pain, mostly in her lower back/spine, where currently there is still cancer in that area.

WHO I AM

My name is Eric, but a lot of you know me as SettingTrends. I'm 29 years old, the 2nd oldest of 7 children. One of those children, Kevin (20) has severe autism, and I've been assisting with care for him for the past 8 years. Currently, as my mother is going through recovery, I've had to adjust and take on the responsibilities of Kevin alone, while finding time to make sure my mother has everything she needs. As hard as this is for me to say, it's a lot harder than I expected. One struggle I'm currently dealing with is taking over as primary care provider for Kevin. Being that my mother has had brain surgery, she's no longer considered eligible to be Kevin's primary care provider. So, over the next 3 months, we'll be working on getting custody transferred to me. BUT, for the time being until the process is finished, the state will be holding all money earned until a new care taker is assigned. So that means that technically, for the time being, I currently have 0 income.

Considering all of this, I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to help me through this difficult time though, and I wanna take this time to thank each and every one of you. Whether it's letting me rant about my day, sending me a message full of well wishes, or even just telling me that you're there for me if I never need anything, has been such an overwhelming thing for me to experience. I am beyond blessed to know the people that I do. People like Alfie, who has been there for me every step of the way, and has always been there for me in moments like this. When I can't take on the world alone anymore, helping me in any which way he can. Thank you so much, buddy.

I want to thank you for at the very least, making it this far and reading my story. Any and all donations are BEYOND appreciated, and will go towards bills, basic necessities, and the overall happiness and well-being of my mother. Thank you guys so much.
