On Thursday October 26th 2017, 13 year old Kaleb, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma (Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma). The diagnosis came as a shock to Kaleb and his family. A couple of weeks prior Kaleb’s mom took him to his doctor because he was sick. Kaleb was then diagnosed on October 15th and treated for bronchitis. On October 21st he was at a birthday party for his great grandma. He was still sick and weak, but kept a smile on his face. That’s Kaleb. After the party, his mom took him back to his doctor because Kaleb was not getting better. That evening, Kaleb had some tests ran that unfortunately were suspicious and abnormal. He was then transferred by ambulance from Hazard, to UK Children’s Hospital, for what would be a longer than expected visit, that would CHANGE Kaleb’s life.  Finally, after a week of extensive and some torturous testing (which Kaleb handled like a champ), his family finally had a diagnosis. Cancer. He would stay in the hospital another 5 days for Chemotherapy and treatment before his parents were able to bring him back home. This diagnosis is hard for a strong minded adult to endure, so I can’t even begin to understand what it’s like for a child. Kaleb’s only worry at his age should be making sure his homework is turned in on time (BUT, believe me he has never worried about that because he is so smart, and such a great student). He should be enjoying his 8th grade school year with his friends. He loves playing video games, and should be able to do so without feeling so sick and tired. Instead, Kaleb is facing months of traveling from Hazard to Lexington Kentucky for cancer treatment. He is expected to be in treatment for the next 4 to 6 months with a long fight ahead. This page was created to help Kaleb in some way with his fight.   Unfortunately with long hospital stays, expensive treatment, and medication the bills pile up quickly. Parents shouldn’t have this financial worry and burden while their child is fighting to get healthy. Their sole focus should be on their sick child. Kaleb’s parents work hard. His mom has had to miss work since Kaleb was unexpectedly admitted to a hospital 2 hours away from home. Kaleb’s mom is the insurance carrier for him. She has private insurance through her work, and it’s an 80/20 plan. In case you’re unsure of what that means, it simply means the carrier is responsible for 20%. Not to mention she is responsible for any co-payments and the deductible. However, NOT EVERYTHING IS COVERED. The family is already paying for things out of pocket. Jessica (Kaleb’s mom) would never ask for help, but those of us that know and love them, all we think about is, how can we help? These donations go directly into an account to pay for Kaleb’s medical bills. Every dollar donated helps in a big way. I know a lot of people donate to charities during the holiday seasons. Please consider donating to this family. Remember you can claim this as a “charitable deduction” on your tax return. Thank you for your donations. For updates and to wish Kaleb well, please visit the Team Kaleb page on Facebook. If you are unable to donate you can help in another way with prayer. Kaleb attended his grandpa’s church regularly (until this diagnosis) and appreciates every prayer spoken for him. Psalm 30:2.
