Help Bring George to Canada

Firstly, thank you from the depths of my heart for taking the time to read our story. This is George. George is one of thousands of street dogs that roam the various cities of India. George's story began 5 months ago. He had 5 brothers and sisters; they lived behind a yoga school. George (named BooBoo back then) took a liking to a woman who was staying in a villa nearby. Daily , George slept on her door mat and often snuck in to have naps in her lap. He was the runt of the litter, and was most comfortable in human company. His siblings even began following suit, all coming to cuddle and bask in some rarely found loving warmth. The woman was working with Rishikesh Animal Rescue, and arranged to have the pups immunized to give them a better chance at survival. At this time, it was suspected that George had Parvovirus (often leading to death in street dogs) and he was placed on an IV and antibiotics for three days. He regained his health and strength and was back to his cuddly self. The kind soul looking out for them wanted to bring them all home. Unfortunately, due to the extremely strict Australian laws, the aforementioned idea was not possible. The woman left with a heavy heart and returned home. The day she left the local people took the litter of puppies and dumped them far outside city limits; except George. George had been sleeping on the door mat of his guardian angel awaiting her return. He had no idea that when he woke, his entire family will have been gone. There was a couple who continued to keep and eye on George, sending updates back to Australia, and then they also left. George, with zero street smarts, was left alone to fend for himself. India is not always the kindest to stray dogs; many are beaten, often starving, malnourished and dying of curable diseases for which there is little to no care. This is where our story begins. I had attended an amazing ceremony to the setting sun at a local temple. Our group slowly meandered back looking in shops and stopped to take photos. Out of nowhere a puppy ran straight into me (literally) and looked up at me as though he was searching for something. This was a common occurrence as my companions pointed out as I often have a small pack trailing in my wake; never feeding them, just giving them love and attention, for which they have an insatiable hunger. The little puppy began to wander looking frightened and lost. He ran ahead a bit, and then sat admidst the noise and bustle, lifting his head, and began to howl and cry. He was narrowly missed by a scooter. I ran forward and scooped him into my arms. I held him close and 30 seconds later he was fast asleep. I held him for 2 hours while he slept. There was just something special about this dog. He was with me for two days and then disappeared. I searched high and low, but to no avail. My friends told me that this is nature and I had played my part. My heart told me differently and I felt that our story was still unfolding.  The next day, I had found  my way to a local café and set about studying for my 200 HR YTT exam. As I sat I took notice of two women conversing, my nosy ears tuned into their conversation. They picked up words; sad, little, brown, lost, and special. Without hesitation I jumped up and approached the women. I inquired about their conversation.  The woman said that yes they were talking about a puppy, and yes he was just a the front of the shop.  I raced to the front, heart beating and there was George. I scooped him up and held him close. I walked back to the woman and told her our story. She informed me that George had been following her for the past 24 hours. She also informed me that she works with animal rescue centres; and lastly that the last time she was in Rishikesh she rehomed a puppy just  like George. Interestingly, neither of us were supposed to have been in Rishikesh at this time. Serendipitous to say the least. Since that fateful day,  he has become my companion and puts smiles on the faces of everyone he meets. I have brought him to a vet, given him his shots, vitamins, and deworming, ensuring his health. After two days of sleep and rest he began to eat small things. Slowly his appetite for food and life began to return. George and I have our guardian angels helping us, looking out for him, and helping me navigate the tricky business of dog adoption for one country to another. We all feel that George has some amazing karma from past lives, and obviously is meant to be somewhere other than here in India. This is where our story is at now. I want to bring George to Canada. I leave here in one week. If you are still reading and want and are able to contribute, bless you. Anything is helpful. If you are unable to make a financial contribution, please pass this on to as many folks as you are able. George and I send you all much love and positive vibes. Namasté
