Brett Barragree was a passionate first responder for 20 years of his short life. Brett was not only a firefighter, paramedic, and Coast Guard veteran, but he was a Basic EMT trainer both at Iroquois Memorial Hospital (IMH) and while in the U. S. Coast Guard.
This 3rd Annual Brett Barragree Memorial Education Fund (BBMEF) again uses Brett's accomplishments as a catalyst to continue to inspire others. In addition to his beloved years in the Coast Guard, Brett worked with and was deeply involved with four local first response units at various times in his career... the Watseka Fire Department, the Iroquois Memorial Hospital EMS program, the Woodland Fire Department, & the Riverside Ambulance Service. The BBMEF provides tuition funds to be used to help Iroquois County residents wanting to enter or move up in the firefighter and/or paramedic field. The awards can be used for beginning as well as continuing education in the chosen field. Recipients are selected by the above first response units.
Brett loved helping others. You could say it was his mission in life from the time he was just a small boy saluting the fire trucks and ambulances as they hurried to someone’s aid. Sadly, Brett’s life was cut short before his life’s mission was completed, but rest assured that he would be so happy to know that his desire to help lives on, and so thankful for all of you who join him in completing his mission.
