OUR CANCER FIGHT

I will never forget the day Nathan told me - the doctor thinks its CANCER. On the 15th of August I was walking our 11 month old girl Hannah in the park, she had just fallen asleep. I heard the sound of Nathans ute and thought to myself oh he's come to join us after his doctors appointment. He had been to the doctors the day before, because he had come home from work feeling slightly off and had a gurgle in his stomach.  He was healthy otherwise, so we thought it would be a simple upset tummy, he'd get some medication to fix it. 

He pulled up and as I turned around I could see the fear on his face. He walked over, dropped to his knees and said you need to take me straight to emergency, the Doctor thinks it's CANCER or inflammatory bowel syndrome. I'm a positive person, so I gave him a hug and said don't worry hunni it won't be cancer! Little did we know it was CANCER and our lives will now be changed forever. 

After countless CT scans, blood tests, MRI's, a biopsy and visits to 2 hospitals we were given the news - Stage 4 Bowel Cancer. The Doctors at the RBH thought they could do a major operation and remove the 10cm tumor along with a few of the boardering organs but the bad news just kept coming. After discussing surgery and giving us hope the initial surgeon met with the specialist team and after looking closer at the scans have found it's spread to his kidney and stomach lining too. "We're sorry we cant offer you the surgery any more, your last resort is chemo and we will check to see how you're going".  We we're devastated and left the hospital crying and embracing each other! 

We've all just had our birthdays and Nathan has recently turned 33 this month. We feel like its all just a bad dream, how can this be happening. Why can't they give him the help he needs because of stupid surgery standard practice procedures.  He's so young and healthy, and we have just started a family and plan to have another baby.  

But we are strong positive people, with a good supportive network and know we can beat this. Since all of this has happened Nathans had to stop working at a local Car Yard and I can only work a few days doing relief teaching with Hannah being so young.  We feel reluctant to ask for help, but I've been told to set this up as people will want to help . And I know that if it was anyone else in our shoes, we'd want to help them any way we could too. 

Please pray for Nathans healing. The chemo specialist has told us that he has an average life expectancy of 12 months to 3 years. We're not buying it, we know we can do better than that!  We want him around for years to come, healthy and happy and so his daughter can get to know her Daddy's love.
