Baby Nova was born on May 5, 2020 , at 3 lbs. 15 oz. Nova is Jasbir's miracle baby, and has been her greatest pride and joy. Unfortunately, Baby Nova has a long road of recovery ahead of her.
Nova has been diagnosed with a condition called Omphalocele, also known as Exomphalos. This is a birth defect of the abdominal (belly) wall which causes the intestines, liver, or other organs to stick outside of the belly through the belly button.
Baby Nova is both a fighter and very strong, but has not been permitted to go home. As of now, Baby Nova is still at the hospital, with no scheduled date to go home. When she is allowed to go home, Baby Nova is going to need around-the-clock medical care due to her condition. Part of her recovery includes a surgical procedure on her abdomen; however, this procedure cannot happen until she is at least 3 years old because doctors strongly believe her body will not be able to handle the surgery. At the moment, she is wearing a shell which keeps the organs protected and prevents any further injury.
At this time, Nova is facing many challenges including difficulty breathing and the inability to digest milk. In addition to being diagnosed with Omphalocele, Nova has Pulmonary Hypoplacia (small lungs), which makes breathing extremely difficult for her without the assistance of an oxygen tube.
Despite all the challenges Baby Nova is facing, she is a fighter, but needs our help to continue providing the best possible care so she can live a long, healthy life.
Please join us in helping to raise money for Jasbir, a single mother who is currently unable to work do to the 24/7 care Baby Nova needs. And unfortunately do to Nova's medical necessities, Jasbir will still be unable to return to work once Baby Nova is permitted to come home. Jasbir is a devoted mother, whose only purpose right now is to ensure Nova gets the care she needs. Without being able to work, combined with the cost of the hospital stay alone, Jasbir is struggling to make ends meet for Nova.
Any contribution you make will go towards hospital bills, necessary medical equipment, medication and the 24/7 care Baby Nova will need.
