This is my daughter Iyana Aliyah Jackson. At age 3, Iyana was diagnosed with a disability called Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is a neurological disease that occurs mainly in girls and causes them to lose purposeful use of their hands, the ability to speak, and walk. Complications include seizures, scoliosis and sudden death in their sleep. Now at age 10, Iyana is solely dependent upon us (her parents), and others for every part of her day. Imagine the symptoms of autism, cerebral palsy, Parkinson's, epilepsy, and anxiety disorders all in one little girl. Every day is an adventure.
Despite her situation Iyana is a fighter! She's been fighting since the day she was born and today we are still fighting. We are currently striving to get the appropriate medical equipment she needs to help her get through the day.
The purpose of your donation is to help cover the cost of a mobility van. If you don't know, let me tell you...Mobility Vans are very expensive. This van will help us transport her from one location to another safely and with ease. Currently Iyana has to be lifted into and out of our vehicle and placed in a wheelchair when traveling from place to place. Lifting her is becoming more and more difficult as she continues to grow not only because she is 83 pounds but also because I have Multiple Sclerosis and my husband suffers from chronic severe back problems.
We've spent thousands of dollars on medical equipment throughout the years, some of which was not covered by insurance. The one item that will significantly help both Iyana and us is a mobility van. Here's a couple that we're interested in getting: Chrysler Town & Country # 1 , Toyota Sienna , Chrysler Town & Country #2 .
Iyana LOVES to be around people. We try to get her out and about to as many places as possible, but it's becoming difficult to do because she's beginning to be too heavy for us to lift from wheelchair to vehicle and vice versa. However, by the grace of God my husband and I have been able to do what is necessary for our little girl. Our hope is to raise enough money to purchase the vehicle by October of this year.
