Pam's Fight: Together We Fight
It began in December of 2014 with what seemed to be a digestive bug. As time moved forward the “bug” did not seem to get any better and little did Pam realize making that first doctor appointment over a year ago was just the beginning of the journey. As the number of doctors, appointments and hospital visits accumulated so did the expenses associated with it.
At the beginning, Pam was unable to keep in food, which lead to her gall bladder being removed. She was diagnosed with Celiac Disease; told many times she had Crohn’s Disease; rushed to the ER twice to spend the next 5 days in the hospital both times; and unwillingly lost 65 in a very short period of time. Pam finally made an appointment with the Mayo Health Care System. On January 23, 2016, Pam’s life was forever changed. She had met with the Gastroenterologist (GI Doctor) and was waiting for endoscopy when she experienced severe abdominal pain. They rushed her into emergency surgery to discover she had a perforated small intestine resulting in a portion of her bowel to be removed. An ileostomy and fistula bag were placed to allow the in intestine to heal. The biopsy taken during her surgery revealed enteropathy associated T-cell lymphoma, a very rare and aggressive cancer, and has began chemo treatments.
With all that has happened, Pam has proven to be a fighter, as she continues to fight every step during this journey. She has several more rounds of chemo and in hopes of a stem cell transplant. She is staying at a facility closer to home between her treatments, but continues to make trips to the Mayo Clinic.
Due to her extended hospital stays; extensive medical treatment; needing to pay for medical insurance in order for a portion of it to be paid due to her husband needing to take an unpaid leave of absence from work to assist her; our goal is fluid as we face the reality of those needs. We are overwhelmed with your generous response as Pam fights; know that every penny helps the focus to stay on Pam and not the financial concerns.
